Trapex is a benzodiazepine which is used for treating anxiety, epilepsy, nausea and vomiting of chemotherapy.
TRAPEX works by increasing neuronal membrane permeability to Cl- ions by binding to stereospecific benzodiazepine receptors on the postsynaptic GABA neuron and enhancing the GABA inhibitory effects resulting in hyperpolarisation and stabilisation.
This is used in the treatment of:
• Status epilepticus
• Management of anxiety
• Insomnia associated with anxiety.
Contraindications
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Respiratory depression
- Acute narrow-angle glaucoma
- Pregnancy
- Lactation
