VENTURI MASK

Venturi mask is a medical device used to deliver a precise and controlled concentration of oxygen to patients. It uses a venturi device to mix oxygen with room air, ensuring a consistent oxygen level regardless of the patient’s breathing rate or pattern. This method is particularly useful for individuals at risk of hypercapnia, such as those with COPD. The mask utilizes the Venturi effect, where a narrow constriction increases the velocity of a fluid (in this case, oxygen), creating a pressure drop that draws in surrounding air. By carefully controlling the oxygen flow and air entrainment, the Venturi mask can deliver a specific and consistent oxygen concentration, which is indicated by color-coded dilutors.
